In The Spotlight

Jason Hoover named new Artistic Director of Ray of Light Theatre

Jason Hoover has been an active ROLT company member since 2006. During that time, he has served as Assistant Director for several shows, played the role of Brad in our still-talked-about production of The Rocky Horror Show and, most recently, directed our acclaimed Assassins in June. He’s already knee-deep in our 2012 planning and execution, and is eager and excited to be taking on this role within our company. Time and again, Jason has proven to be an amazing asset to Ray of Light and the Bay Area theatre community at large – and we’re thrilled to have him on board. Long-time, Founding Artistic Director Shane Ray will remain an active and vital member of the company, as his role evolves into one that’s a bit more consultative. In other words, our ‘founding father’ isn’t going anywhere.

San Francisco Critics Love

Jerry Springer The Opera!

"Director M. Graham Smith and music director Ben Prince have assembled a huge cast of strong voices from local opera, operetta, musical, choir and drag groups...The total package is a big, tuneful, camp hoot."
Robert Hurwitt - SF Chronicle

"Ray of Light delivers a solid production with excellent musical values, some fine performances, and more than a few belly laughs."
Charles Kruger - Examiner.com

"Jerry Springer the Opera shocks, confounds and even infuriates. Love or hate the content, this production is superbly mounted."
Tom W. Kelly - San Francisco Bay Times

"Tasteless. Vulgar. Blasphemous....you won’t be able to avert your eyes as the energy, humor and sheer musical power of this current Ray of Light Theatre production blows the walls out of San Francisco’s Victoria Theatre"
Susan Cohn - San Mateo Daily Journal

"This is possibly one of the best shows to come to San Francisco...You gotta see this brilliant, adroit, inspired and joyous musical!"
Lee Hartgrave - BeyondChron.com

"There is energy and aliveness to the work that make it entertaining, enjoyable, even attractive, beyond the obviously objectionable nature of it all."
Janos Gereben - San Francisco Classical Voice

"Go see this. I really don't want to tell you more than I already have because most of it has to be seen and heard to be believed."
John Marcher - A Beast In a Jungle

"Make no mistake, this is not a performance you should take your child to, and there are certainly a fair share of should-I-really-be-laughing-at-this moments that are both purposefully uncomfortable and downright hilarious."
Justine Quart - SF Appeal
