Mission Statement

Our mission at Ray of Light Theatre is to entertain, educate and enrich our community. We provide diverse audiences with an opportunity to see live theatre by presenting affordable, high-quality productions that reflect the rich culture of the San Francisco Bay Area.

Artistic Vision

Ray of Light Theatre produces both contemporary musicals and new visions of classic musical theatre. We are committed to producing theatre that reflects and informs our own community. We hope to attract new audiences to our theatre through productions that transport our audiences away from reality within the confines of the theatre. With this, Ray of Light Theatre pursues three basic artistic goals:

1. The creation and performance of dynamic and engaging musical theatre experiences which excite, challenge and transform our audiences. Ray of Light Theatre’s work is accessible and adventurous, drawing new audiences to theatre. Our aesthetic was forged by combining contemporary theatre production elements with a commitment to maintaining the integrity of the original work. This fusion of old and new gives ROLT its unique appeal, and an audience base that spans several generations.

2. The facilitation of workshops and musical theatre training that empowers and inspires artists of all ages. Ray of Light Theatre’s education and training programs cater to young people, emerging artists, professional performers and directors. We strive to provide authentic and practical experiences to allow artists to grow and develop their talent.

3. The production of quality theatrical experiences within realistic means. We believe there is a great artistic value in producing within our resources of time, people, materials and finances. The assignment of physical ingredients for each production is based on how the connection with its audience is best accomplished.
